Noel Egan wants Matty Cash to replace Diego Carlos for Aston Villa against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League at Villa Park on Wednesday (2 October).

The ex-FIFA official and lifetime Villa fan believes Carlos and Ezri Konsa left Unai Emery's side "exposed" against Ipswich Town.

Villa came from behind before conceding in the second-half to draw 2-2 with Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Sunday (29 September), with Carlos in particular struggling.

Therefore,  Birmingham-born former FIFA-licences referee Egan - speaking exclusively to Villa News - would welcome a point against Bayern Munich.

“If Cash is available, I’d bring him in at right-back and move Konsa back to centre-back alongside Pau Torres," Egan said.

“We were totally exposed against Ipswich with the combination of Carlos and Konsa on the right-hand side.

“Therefore, I’d be delighted if Villa come away with a point, given the right-back and John McGinn situations."

Aston Villa to struggle against Bayern Munich in the Champions League?

As per CBS Sports Golazo on YouTube (20 September), Cash is targeting a return from injury against Bayern Munich.

Therefore, if he is available, Emery would no doubt be keen to play him. However, the Villa boss might not want to rush him back. With McGinn already out injured, the Spaniard won't want to further damage any other key players.

As a result, he could look to start Lamare Bogarde at right-back and move Konsa to centre-back.

Whatever he chooses to do, he would be wise to drop Carlos after his recent displays. If the Brazillian is struggling against Wolves and Ipswich Town, a match against Bayern Munich might be a step too far.
