Bryan King doesn't understand why Owen Asemota has left Arsenal to join Aston Villa.

The ex-Villa scout claims the arrival of the goalkeeper will have sent a message to the rest of the club's youngsters.

Aston Villa announced the signing of Asemota via the club's official website on Wednesday (4 September). As per Birmingham Live (5 September), Arsenal are set to receive £1million in compensation.

And King - speaking exclusively to Villa News - has questioned why Asemota has left the North London club.

“Why has Asemota left Arsenal?” King asked.

“Is it because he will have limited opportunities with the Gunners? Also, it seems like Villa are concentrating more on bringing good young players in and not taking players up from their own academy.

“What signal does this give the players in their own academy? They’ve spent a lot of money on these young players, £1million compensation for this 16-year-old.

“My question is why Arsenal haven't been able to keep hold of him if he has this much potential. However, they haven't, and Villa have won the race for his signature.”

Asemota played three times for Arsenal in the Under-18 Premier League last season, saving a penalty against Villa.

It was perhaps that performance which captured Villa's attention, and the West Midlands club have now won the race for his signature.

Considering the fee they have paid to bring Asemota to the club, Villa's hopes must be high, and it will be interesting to see what kind of role the goalkeeper plays over the coming years.
