Terms mooted for Aston Villa to complete Crysencio Summerville transfer amid Leeds United update

Aston Villa could have “an opportunity” to sign Leeds United gem Crysencio Summerville this summer if the Whites miss out on promotion, according to Alan Hutton.

Reports emerged from Fabrizio Romano [25 December] ahead of the January transfer window that Unai Emery’s side were keeping tabs on the Dutch winger as the Spaniard looks to add to his attacking options ahead of a potential Champions League campaign.

The 22-year-old has been in magnificent form for Daniel Farke’s side this term, scoring 19 goals and laying on nine assists in 43 Championship matches, but his goals weren’t enough to help Leeds secure automatic promotion.

While there is still a chance that the Whites will make an immediate return to the Premier League, Hutton believes Summerville’s future and a potential move to Villa Park will be determined by what happens in the playoffs.

“I think it will be unlikely unless they lay down a lot of money,” Hutton told Villa News.

“He’s somewhere where he probably feels comfortable, he’s playing really well, he knows the club inside out now and after having a great season he’d probably like to do battle with Leeds in the Premier League.

“If it doesn’t work out that way, there could be an opportunity for teams to be sniffing around. He’s had a fantastic season in terms of goals and assists, he’s a defender’s nightmare to play against and I think he would fit into the Villa side quite comfortably.

“With the attributes that he’s got and the way that he plays, I think it would be an easy transition for him. It will be an interesting one but I think a lot will be determined by where Leeds are playing next year.”

Will Aston Villa sign Crysencio Summerville from Leeds United in the transfer window?

Emery will almost certainly be keen to add to his attacking options when the summer transfer window opens, especially as speculation continues around the likes of Ollie Watkins, Leon Bailey and Jacob Ramsey’s futures.

Summerville hasn’t ever managed to perform consistently in the Premier League previously in his career, but the Dutchman has shown in the Championship this term that he is far too good for the second tier.

Whether his goals will be enough to guide Farke’s side through the playoffs in the coming weeks remains to be seen, but Emery and his recruitment team will be hoping that Leeds slip up once again so they can strike and secure the 22-year-old’s signature.

Even then, a move won’t be cheap, but it seems very unlikely Summerville will be keen to spend another 12 months in England’s second tier.
