Aston Villa: Ezri Konsa may consider £40m+ Villa Park exit after new Manchester United transfer update

Villa News Speaking to Alan Hutton

Alan Hutton joined Aston Villa from Tottenham in 2011. The former Scotland right-back went on to make over 200 appearances in all competitions for the Villans, helping them reach the FA Cup final in 2015 and promotion from the Championship in 2019. Now a pundit for BBC Sport and TNT Sports, Hutton has also joined Villa News’ team of experts to react to the latest news emerging from the club.

Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa won't want to leave Villa Park this summer despite reported transfer interest from Manchester United, according to Alan Hutton.

The 26-year-old has enjoyed an excellent season under Unai Emery, starting 29 of Villa's 32 Premier League matches and even earning a maiden England call-up and cap in international friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.

Konsa's excellent form at Villa Park is believed to have caught the eye of Manchester United as they look to strengthen their backline this summer and the Red Devils may reignite their interest in the versatile defender [Football Transfers, 4 April].

While Hutton admits a £50million bid could tempt Emery into selling the 26-year-old this summer, he believes the chance of playing in the Champions League with Villa could convince Konsa to stay this summer.

"I get it Manchester United are still a huge draw," Hutton told Villa News

"They're a massive football club the world over so I would understand him thinking about it. Is that the right move for him? I'm not too sure, it may never come up again but there's an opportunity where you are, you've worked hard to get there.

"He's come through the levels, he's now an England international and there's a possibility of playing Champions League football. Would you want to leave that? I don't think so right now.

"The flip side of that is Manchester United are a big team so it will really boil down to him and how he sees his future. It will have to be a big number, Villa put a lot of faith in him and he's now an international footballer.

"What are we talking £40-£50million? He's still at a good age, will Manchester United be willing to spend that, I'm not so sure."

Manchester United told to pay £50million to secure Ezri Konsa transfer from Aston Villa?

Several of Villa's biggest starts have already been linked with the exit door ahead of the summer transfer window as the current profit and sustainability situation at Villa Park could force Emery into selling some of his bestplayers.

While a move to Manchester United would surely tempt Konsa, he is unlikely to ditch the Villans if they are in the Champions League, especially if Erik ten Hag's side miss out on the top four this term.

Hopefully, Emery will be able to get the job done, not only for the financial reward the top four will bring but also for the boost it will give Villa's recruitment team in the summer transfer window.
