Aston Villa: ‘Rubbish’ Leon Bailey exit reports slammed after what he said
Aston Villa fans don’t need to worry about Leon Bailey leaving the club despite the “rubbish” reports that came out following a recent interview he did, according to Dan Bardell.
Speaking on the Let’s Be Honest podcast on 20 March, the 26-year-old admitted that anyone would want to play for a “massive” Premier League team as he suggested it would help grow the profile of Jamaican football.
But that led to some concerns being raised about the winger potentially looking to leave the Villans despite him also revealing that he is “happy” at Villa Park.
Bardell believes that Bailey’s comments were “taken out of context” as he insisted the player isn’t going to leave immediately after he’s just signed a new contract with the club.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “It was the usual rubbish really, every international break there is something like that.
“I remember in the first international break, Tielemans went away and basically said he wanted to play, which I would expect from a footballer and it was turned into something it’s not when he came back.
“I think that’s the case this time as well, people are looking for news and will jump on anything anyone says.
“Leon Bailey has obviously done quite a big interview, his stepdad is very outspoken anyway and spouts a lot of stuff generally, so they’ve kind of worked together in a way and given the media a chance to make a story.
“I don’t think it’s anything to worry about, he’s just signed a new contract. A player isn’t going to just sign a new contract and then say they want to leave straight away, that’s not what’s happened.
“What he’s said has been taken out of context, so it’s nothing for Villa fans to worry about.
“I think just take it for what it is. It was an international break, people were looking for news and that’s been jumped on.”
Could Leon Bailey leave Aston Villa?
It appears as though Bailey’s comments were completely blown out of proportion after he was just honest about what it would mean for him and his country to play for a massive club.
As Bardell points out, the Jamaican has just signed a new contract and he wasn’t hinting that he was looking to leave Villa Park.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if there was some interest in the winger on the back of his impressive form this season, but it would take a lot for Villa to sanction a move.
