Dan Bardell reacts as Jonathan Rowe could be earmarked for Aston Villa transfer
We’re delighted to welcome Sky Sports journalist Dan Bardell as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…
Dan Bardell believes Norwich City winger Jonathan Rowe could be the type of player Aston Villa would look to bring in if they sign anyone in January.
TEAMTALK reported on 11 November that Villa are joined in the race to sign the 20-year-old by fellow Premier League sides Wolves and Crystal Palace.
It is said that the Canaries are determined to keep hold of the England U-21 international after he has scored seven goals in 16 Championship appearances so far this season.
Bardell believes that Rowe could be a player that the Villans have “earmarked” to bring in to either send straight back out on loan or to come in and learn off the senior players in the side.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “He’s a wide player who has taken off a little bit this season. I think he made his Premier League debut a few years ago but hasn’t really played for Norwich since. I don’t know what the reasoning is behind that, but he’s definitely made an impact for Norwich this season as a wide player.
“I know a few Norwich fans and they think really highly of him. I can’t work out what Villa are going to do in January and whether they’re going to do anything or not because the squad isn’t massive, but you don’t really want to disrupt things.
“If they were to bring a player in, it would be that type of player. But then I think Bailey and Zaniolo were on the bench at the weekend and Jacob Ramsey hasn’t played all season. They’re three players that play in that position, so then I think is the squad size okay, do we really need anyone else?
“It will be interesting to see what we do. He might be a player who Villa have earmarked because I know they work in a way where they have targets in different positions and they work their way down.
“Maybe he’s a youngster for the future that they’ve identified as someone to bring in and head back out on loan or come in and sit on the bench to learn off the players that are there.”
