Aston Villa made superb summer transfer call as 88% Pau Torres produces table-topping stat

Aston Villa have recruited very well in recent times, with the likes of Moussa Diaby and Pau Torress slotting in effortlessly at Villa Park.

The former has chipped in with several important goals and assists, providing some much-needed help for striker Ollie Watkins.

But the displays of the latter at the other end of the pitch have not gone unnoticed, with Torres forming a strong partnership alongside Ezri Konsa.

The Spaniard was in fine form in his club’s most recent clash against Fulham, with Villa running out 3-1 winners on Sunday (12 November).

As per Sofascore, Torres completed 88% of his passes against the Cottagers, one of which was a key pass. Moreover, the 26-year-old won three of his five ground duels, and registered impressive tallies of three clearances, two tackles and one interception.

It was another assured performance from the centre-back in several areas, with yet another coming to the fore after the 3-1 win.

According to Aston Villa Statto (14 November), Torres sits atop the list of progressive ball carriers in the Premier League this season.

Defined as the total distance a player has moved the ball while controlling it with their feet towards the opposition goal, Torres boasts a figure of 3,018 yards, well ahead of Manchester City’s Ruben Dias (2,699) and Brighton’s Lewis Dunk (2,406) in second and third respectively.

Villa boss Unai Emery undoubtedly had a huge say in bringing the defender to Villa Park in the summer, and it has proved to be a superb decision.

In other Aston Villa news, an 11% Villa man must be forced out of the Midlands club, Emery has been left with no other choice.
