We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Aston Villa...

Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz has been working tremendously hard behind the scenes to keep himself fit, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that a lot goes into keeping a footballer away from setbacks and things like mitigating stress and hours of sleep also play a huge role.

A stat emerged at the end of October, showing just how impressive his record is – not missing a single game through injury since 2019.

Speaking about his injury, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, told Villa News:

“Luiz has been impeccable with his availability, making more appearances than any other Villa player since joining.

What typically leads to a remarkable fitness record is great health habits and discipline off the pitch – including strength and conditioning work, nutrition, sleep, mitigating stress and so on.

“Even for the Fulham game he’s fit and expected to play.

Unai Emery will undoubtedly be fortunate to have the Brazilian on his books and he appears to be the model professional in training as well.

This season, he has started in all 11 Premier League games and despite being a deep-lying midfielder, has found the back of the net on five occasions.

He’s also provided an assist and it’s fair to say that he’s among the first names on the team sheet for Emery and the Spaniard can rely him not just to deliver on the field but also in terms of his fitness.

He’s likely to start in the 12 November game against Fulham as well.

In other Aston Villa news, a rising star has given Unai Emery some food for thought and his Aston Villa debut will surely be on the horizon in the coming weeks.
