Aston Villa could threaten to terminate behind-the-scenes deal amid 'strange' situation

Villa News Speaking to Alan Hutton

Alan Hutton joined Aston Villa from Tottenham in 2011. The former Scotland right-back went on to make over 200 appearances in all competitions for the Villans, helping them reach the FA Cup final in 2015 and promotion from the Championship in 2019. Now a pundit for BBC Sport and TNT Sports, Hutton has also joined Villa News’ team of experts to react to the latest news emerging from the club.

Aston Villa could threaten to terminate their kit deal with Castore over the situation with the kits, according to Alan Hutton.

The Telegraph reported on 28 September that Villa are "poised to cut short" their shirt deal with the Manchester-based manufacturers after both men's and women's team players complained about how the kit retains sweat.

Villa players have looked noticeably drenched in some games this season, especially in pre-season when they had friendlies in warmer climates.

While it hasn't seemed to have affected results too badly, Hutton is concerned that the issue could lead to a mental problem for the players because it restricts movement.

The former Villa right-back believes that the Premier League side could go to Castore and threaten to break off their agreement if they don't come up with a solution.

Speaking to Villa News, Hutton said: "I've not really had a problem like that except for in pre-season when you go away to a hot country.

"I understand what they say because you're absolutely soaked. It's like you've jumped into a swimming pool and come out with a t-shirt on and you can't move.

"There seems to be some kind of problem but it made me laugh a wee bit.

"I remember seeing a few weeks ago how wet the tops looked. I thought it looked strange so I don't know why and if it's something to do with the material.

"They might try to do something to fix it but it's definitely a strange one.

"If the players are coming in and saying, 'what is happening with these tops?', it seems insignificant but it could make more of a mental thing than anything and upset their performance.

"If a lot of the players are moaning about it they'll go to the manufacturers and ask if it can be fixed or resolved, if not they'll have to look elsewhere."
