We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…

Alan Hutton wasn't particularly moved by former Aston Villa CEO Christ Purslow's appearance among the away fans during the win at Chelsea.

Video clips circulating on social media from Stamford Bridge of the ex-Villans executive singing along with supporters as Unai Emery's side came away from the capital with a 1-0 win gained some attention at the weekend (24 September).

But former Scotland international and BBC pundit Hutton was doesn't feel it is something the majority of fans will be that excited about, even if there is no real issue with it.

Hutton exclusively told Villa News: “I don’t see why not. To be honest I’m not really bothered. I don't think many fans will be.

It’s one of those, he was at the club for a period of time and went to the game.

“It’s not a problem, I don’t really see anything up with it to be honest.”

The novelty of a former suit making an appearance among the people likely went down better thanks to the result going for Villa, and in some ways it's nice to see the 59-year-old following the club as a fan still.

Clearly Hutton puts no great importance behind it from a player's point of view, but some sections in the fanbase may value the apparent connection.

The win over Mauricio Pochettino's side saw Villa back up to sixth in the table to suggest this could be another impressive season, despite two comprehensive defeats early in the campaign.

A former player will always get more interest in the away end than an ex-club chief, but for those around Purslow on the day it may have added something to the experience.
