Surprise Aston Villa sensation Jhon Duran proved broadcaster wrong after impressive start to season
We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…
Jhon Duran’s prolific emergence in the Aston Villa side has been impressive but surprising, according to Ty Bracey.
Duran has staked his claim from the bench so far this season, making late goal-scoring impacts in games against Everton and Crystal Palace, the latter of which began the Villans’ late comeback at Villa Park.
Many did not expect the 19-year-old to have such an impact, let alone more goals than Unai Emery’s first-choice striker Ollie Watkins, who is yet to get off the mark in the league. The Colombia international has displayed his impressive finishing ability, strength and technique in just 56 minutes of Premier League football, averaging a goal every 28 minutes.
Bracey admits he predicted the youngster to go out on loan during the transfer window in search of more game time and tipped the £15million man from Chicago Fire to be a Villan for the future. However, Bracey has been “really impressed” with Duran’s start to the season.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “I thought he’d be one for the future. I didn’t think we’d see Duran so frequently. I thought he may have gone out on loan this season but Emery, rightly so, sees something in him.
“He’s performing when he’s coming on and doing exactly what we need him to. He’s really impressed me, I’m really happy with how he’s pulled through.”
