Aston Villa £18m sale thrills BBC pundit as Cameron Archer bids farewell to Villa Park

We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…

Alan Hutton has sent his best wishes to Cameron Archer after the striker left B6 to join Sheffield United.

Archer, 21, joined the Blades at the weekend in a deal reportedly worth £18million [Sky Sports].

The Walsall-born striker made his debut for the Yorkshire club on Wednesday night as they lost to Lincoln City on penalties in the Carabao Cup.

Archer was substituted off the pitch after just an hour with stats by WhoScored showing that he hit one shot at goal, which hit the target, completed all 13 passes he attempted and even completed one key pass.

From a personal standpoint, it wasn’t the worst of debuts for Archer but overall, he’ll be hoping for better results with the Blades after his spell at Bramall Lane started off in a disappointing manner.

Hutton believes it’ll be tough for Archer with Sheffield United but he thinks he’ll get everything he needs in South Yorkshire to become a better player.

“I hope it’s a good move. I really hope so,” Hutton told Villa News.

I want him to go there and play really well but it’s going to be difficult as he’s signed for a team who are going to be near the bottom [of the Premier League].

There might not be many opportunities during games but that being said, when he does get one, he tends to score. That’s what Sheffield United are looking for and what he’s been brought into the club to do.

They paid a lot of money for him and there’s room for him to develop as well so it’ll be a good move for him.

He’ll play games and he’ll want to be the main guy moving forward. I think he’ll flourish under that, he enjoys that pressure so I think he’ll do well.

It’s good for Villa as well to have an academy graduate come through and leave for £18million.

We’re talking about a lot of money here.

Fingers crossed it goes really well for him because I think Villa have got a good deal as well.”
