Keinan Davis closing in on Aston Villa exit as Swansea City medical pencilled in
Keinan Davis is to undergo a medical with Swansea City ahead of joining from Aston Villa, according to Planet Swans.
A number of Championship clubs have been linked with the 25-year-old, who looked set to join Hull City at one point [Hull Daily Mail].
However, Planet Swans reported on Sunday [27 August] that Swansea have all but won the race for Davis, helping to plug the gap left by Joel Piroe’s departure to Leeds United.
The report adds that the Swans took advantage of “some complications” that arose when Hull attempted to complete a deal.
The right decision
It has long been clear that Davis and Villa were mutually looking for a transfer this summer, and a move should now go through with a bit of time to spare before the window closes next week.
Davis spent last season on loan with Watford and was clearly not part of Unai Emery’s plans upon returning to Villa Park earlier this summer.
The 25-year-old scored seven goals and assisted two more in 34 Championship appearances for Watford last season, 27 of those being starts.
He was also part of the Nottingham Forest squad that earned promotion from the second tier in 2021-22, playing 18 times that campaign.
Davis is not as prolific as Piroe, but he is capable of scoring and assisting goals – something the Swans could really do with right now.
Villa fans may have wanted the former England U20 international to be given more of a chance, but he is not exactly young and Emery should be trusted with any calls he makes right now.
Hopefully for Davis, this is a transfer that allows him to push on and have a successful career away from Villa Park.
In other Aston Villa news, former defender Alan Hutton has questioned a transfer decision made by the club.
