Aston Villa: 'Money talks' as big-money deal all but done for Aaron Ramsey to leave permanently

We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…

Alan Hutton doesn’t want to see Aston Villa sell Aaron Ramsey this summer despite speculation strongly linking him with a move to Burnley.

The Athletic reported on Tuesday (8 August) that Ramsey, 20, is expected to join the Lancashire club, “with only the final details surrounding personal terms and the inclusion of a buy-back clause are left to be sorted”.

On Sunday (6 August), the Daily Mail reported that Burnley’s bid for the England Under-20 attacking midfielder is worth £12million.

Ramsey spent last season on loan at both Norwich and Middlesbrough, scoring eight goals and supplying four assists in 29 Championship appearances across the two spells.

However, it seems he’s not done enough to get himself in Unai Emery’s plans for the upcoming 2023/24 season, based on recent speculation.

Hutton would rather Ramsey went out on loan and then return to Villa Park next year with a stronger chance at breaking into the senior side.

“I don’t think they’ll want to [sell him], I think they’ll want to send him out on loan. That’s possibly better,” Hutton told Villa News.

He’s still so young so the opportunity for him to break into the first team is still there.

Look, we all know that money talks and depending on who comes through the door, or if the manager wants anyone else, and they see his position being full, they might be willing to sell.

I’d like to see Ramsey stay and go out on loan to get the game time he needs.

He’s still got time on his side so there’s no rush to leave Villa Park.”

In other Aston Villa news, a big-money bid has been submitted for this Villa Park ace.
