Aston Villa triple exit on the cards as £8.5m Leander Dendoncker news emerges from France
We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…
Alan Hutton can see three midfielders leaving Aston Villa this summer as Unai Emery continues to look to add to his squad.
Morgan Sanson and Marvelous Nakamba both spent the second half of last season on loan at Strasbourg and Luton respectively while 2022 summer signing Leander Dendoncker has also been linked with a move away from Villa Park.
Foot Mercato reported on 6 July that Villa are willing to listen to offers for Dendoncker, with the 28-year-old Belgium midfielder valued between £8.5million and £10.2million.
Youri Tielemans has already joined the Villans from Leicester City, pushing those three players down the midfield pecking order.
When asked if Villa would be open to letting Dendoncker leave, Hutton told Villa News: “Probably.
“If you look at Youri Tielemans coming in and Emery looking to probably bring someone else in that midfield role, they’ll need to free up space.
“Sanson, Dendoncker, Nakamba – there’s a big opportunity for them to move on if the manager’s looking elsewhere and bringing other players in.
“I think Dendoncker has done well when he’s come on. He’s not been a regular so if they can bring someone else in who can fill that space and make them compete more, I think that’s what they’ll do.”
Dendoncker played 21 times in all competitions for Aston Villa last season after joining from Wolves for £12.9million on 1 September 2022.
However, the Belgian only started seven times in the Premier League and his only start in the FA Cup saw him get sent off in a defeat to Stevenage in January.
In other Aston Villa news, a behind-the-scenes link has helped Villa to sign this honeymooning player.
