Aston Villa transfer news: Clubs make contact for Leander Dendoncker, Unai Emery ready to let him go - Fabrizio Romano
Leander Denodoncker could leave Aston Villa this summer with the club ready to listen to offers for him, Fabrizio Romano reports.
The Villans have signed Youri Tielemans already during the window, reducing the opportunities for his compatriot who only arrived from Wolves on deadline day last September.
As such, while Unai Emery likes the 28-year-old he is prepared to let him go and there appears to be no shortage of interest in his signature.
Reporting via Twitter on Tuesday morning (4 July) Romano wrote: “Understand Aston Villa are open to listen to offers for Leander Dendoncker despite his longer running deal. He’s rated by Emery but there’s lot of competition.
“French and Italian clubs already asked for info; player open to any kind of proposal. PL clubs also keen.”
Upgrade
Dendoncker is a solid player who would provide valuable cover at Villa Park if he were to stay, but at his age he isn’t likely to want to sit on the bench all season.
A combination of Tielemans, Boubacar Kamara, Douglas Luiz, and even John McGinn, are all in line to take up his opportunities so unless there was an alarming injury crisis next term the Belgian international might not expect to add too many to his 20 Premier League appearances for the club.
If there is already interest from three countries then it looks like the chances are that he goes this summer, as the more clubs in for him the more likely it is that a decent fee comes from it.
Dendoncker was unlikely to have been particularly expensive when he arrived from Molineux and he filled a need at the time, especially when Kamara was then injured prior to the World Cup.
But Aston Villa are moving up in the world pretty rapidly under Emery so competition for places will be fierce and those who might get buried down the pecking order are worth more in potential transfer fees now.
It doesn’t sound like he will be short of options so as long as one or more clubs make a suitable offer the Villans midfielder should land on his feet somewhere.
In other Aston Villa news, a star international striker has been mooted as a possible “ambitious” transfer target this summer.
