Aston Villa ready to submit £51.2m mega bid to sign Federico Chiesa, Juventus star makes decision - Sky Sports

Aston Villa are ready to bid £51.2million to sign Juventus and Italy forward Federico Chiesa, according to Sky Sport Italia.

The Italian broadcaster reported on Thursday night (22 June) that Newcastle United are also in the hunt to sign the 25-year-old.

While it is understood that Villa are prepared to submit a club-record bid for Chiesa, the former Fiorentina star isn’t very keen on a move to Villa Park.

No chance

Villa are definitely being ambitious in their pursuit of Chiesa – but perhaps a bit too ambitious.

Chiesa admittedly didn’t have the best of seasons for Juventus last time out, scoring just four goals in 33 appearances across all competitions and supplying six assists.

His form did pick up at the back end of the season in Serie A as he scored two and assisted two in his final five league games of the campaign.

Villa could do with adding some strength in the wide area of their squad, especially as players like Leon Bailey, Bertrand Traore and Philippe Coutinho struggling last season.

Chiesa would obviously add a lot of star quality to Unai Emery’s side but even with a big-money bid at the ready, a lot would be needed to convince the player to make the move.

Unfortunately for Aston Villa, it’s unlikely they’ll be able to tempt Chiesa because he’ll no doubt want Champions League football – or at least Europa League football – at whichever club he joins next.

Newcastle are unfortunately a more attractive proposition for the Villans at this point.

In other Aston Villa news, big-name signings are now on the cards after a behind-the-scenes arrival at Villa Park.
