We’re delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park…
Alan Hutton would love to see Ivan Toney move to Aston Villa in the summer after the Brentford goal machine was linked with a move to B6.
Toney, 27, has been in incredible goalscoring form this season with the one-time England striker scoring 20 goals in 33 Premier League appearances for the Bees.
According to a report by Football Insider on 27 April, Villa are eyeing up a move for the former Newcastle centre-forward as Unai Emery aims to add to his options up front.
It is understood that Manchester United are also keen on Toney with the possibility of Brentford losing their star man increasing.
Ollie Watkins has been recently linked with a move to Bayern Munich [Mirror] and Hutton believes that while Toney would be an expensive acquisition, it could be a doable one for Villa if they qualify for European football.
“I’d love to see it, he’s had an outstanding season,” Hutton told Villa News.
“Toney’s on the fringes of the England squad, he’s an absolute goalscorer, he’s hungry to put the ball in the back of the net and I think that’s what Ollie Watkins is becoming.
“It’ll be a lot of money to prise him away from Brentford and I’m pretty sure there’ll be a lot of teams looking at him.
“I don’t know what he’s thinking but I would have thought he’d want to play European football and be at the highest level possible.
“It’ll obviously help his England career, too. It might be something he’ll enjoy.”
In other Aston Villa news, the Villans have been backed to complete one major deal in the summer after an update from Fabrizio Romano.
