Aston Villa keen on Charlton Athletic sensation Miles Leaburn
Aston Villa are one of a number of Premier League and Championship clubs interested in Charlton Athletic sensation Miles Leaburn, according to The Mirror’s Tom Hopkinson.
The 19-year-old has enjoyed an excellent season for the Addicks, scoring 12 goals and registering five assists in his last six games.
Hopkinson claims (pg 55, 16 April) Leaburn is attracting the attention of a host of sides, who are all mulling over a move for the striker, who is contracted to the South Londoners until 2025.
With Ollie Watkins in excellent form Villa, a move for Leaburn would certainly be with an eye to the future. But, having two teenage strikers to compete with the England international is an exciting proposition for the Villa Park faithful. It shows the board are planning with an eye to the future and are willing to develop players instead of dishing out significant transfer fees.
Leaburn has been featuring regularly for the Addicks, more so than Jhon Duran has been for Villa since he completed his January switch. And, statistically, the Charlton striker he racked up some pretty impressive numbers to date.
According to Wyscout, Leaburn has amassed a shot accuracy rate of 61 per cent, which is 20 per cent higher than Duran. We’ve seen the importance of that statistic during Watkins’ amazing run of form and Leaburn’s ability to hit the target regularly is also a promising sign.
Furthermore, 30 per cent of the 19-year-old’s shots end up in the back of the net. This demonstrates that he’s actually relatively clinical when given the chance. Despite his mesmeric form, Watkins’ conversion rate is at 20 per cent – so this is mightily impressive for the Charlton man.
We’ve seen the success of Watkins’ move to Villa Park from Brentford. The EFL can be an extremely affluent place to shop and Leaburn could easily follow a similar trajectory if given the chance.
He’s proven himself in League One and could well be set for a move in the summer. If Villa do sign the striker, then potentially loaning him out to a Championship side would be the best decision for his development.
