Aston Villa want to sign Roma striker Tammy Abraham - report
Aston Villa are interested in signing AS Roma striker Tammy Abraham this summer, with the Italian giants ready to accept a fee in the excess of £40m, according to 90min.
The 25-year-old enjoyed a thrilling and successful loan spell at Villa Park during the 2018/19 Sky Bet Championship campaign where he was on loa from Chelsea, scoring 25 league goals as the Villains won promotion to the top flight.
Abraham has enjoyed a fruitful two-year period at Roma under Jose Mourinho, but a return to the club where he made his name could well be on the offing this summer.
According to 90min [17 February], Roma are ready to discuss selling Abraham this summer, though they will look to command a fee in excess of £40m.
The price tag will reportedly not deter Villa as the club hierarchy are prepared to back Unai Emery this summer.
Dream return
This would be a dream return for the Villa Park faithful and Abraham considering the successful time they had together four years ago where the 11-cap England star scored 25 league goals as well as a crucial winner in the Championship play-off semi-final against West Brom.
The striker has been hugely successful since his permanent move from Chelsea currently enjoying a good career in Serie A where he’s so far scored 23 goals in two seasons.
Villa’s interest is certainly a sign of their intentions and ambitions under Emery. The club are prepared to back him this summer and signing Abraham will be a real statement of intent.
Aston Villa certainly need more options in attack, and could well boast one of the Premier League’s most exciting strikeforce if they are able to pair Abraham with Ollie Watkins next season.
However, the striker will have ambitions to play in the UEFA Champions League soon enough, and Villa certainly won’t be able to match that which makes a potential deal difficult.
In other Aston Villa news, the club face competition from Barcelona to secure the signing of a striker at the end of the season.
