Alan Hutton tells Aston Villa to give Carney Chukwuemeka the contract he wants

Villa News Speaking to Alan Hutton

Alan Hutton joined Aston Villa from Tottenham in 2011. The former Scotland right-back went on to make over 200 appearances in all competitions for the Villans, helping them reach the FA Cup final in 2015 and promotion from the Championship in 2019. Now a pundit for BBC Sport and TNT Sports, Hutton has also joined Villa News’ team of experts to react to the latest news emerging from the club.

We’re delighted to welcome former Scotland defender Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Aston Villa...

Alan Hutton has told Aston Villa to give young midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka a suitable contract to keep him at the club.

The former Villa star stated his belief that Chukwuemeka is an immensely gifted player and that Villa should do everything they can to hold on to him.

It’s one of those frustrating situations where, at this moment in time, he’s really young,” he exclusively told Villa News.

He’s got all the talent in the world, I still speak to a lot of the boys about him and they can’t speak highly enough of him, so they will want to keep him there.

“He’s into the last year of his contract. When you’re a young boy you want those assurances that you can break into the first team. Can Steven Gerrard give him that at this moment in time? I’m not so sure.

“I think at his age every Villa fan would be disappointed to lose someone so talented, so hopefully Villa can step up and give him something that he sees worthy of his talents.”

How likely is a new deal?

Chukwuemeka is an incredibly talented player, but a new contract seems unlikely at this stage.

Villa have been locked in negotiations with the player for some time and at no point have they been given a positive indication that he will stay.

Sadly, it seems that Chukwuemeka is destined for the Villa Park exit door.
