Alan Hutton: Conor Gallagher would be excellent signing for Aston Villa this summer

Villa News Speaking to Alan Hutton

Alan Hutton joined Aston Villa from Tottenham in 2011. The former Scotland right-back went on to make over 200 appearances in all competitions for the Villans, helping them reach the FA Cup final in 2015 and promotion from the Championship in 2019. Now a pundit for BBC Sport and TNT Sports, Hutton has also joined Villa News’ team of experts to react to the latest news emerging from the club.

Alan Hutton has insisted that Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher would be a "great signing" for Aston Villa this summer if they can pull it off.

The ex-Villa right-back admitted that Steven Gerrard will be looking for a player similar to himself from his career who can cover every blade of grass and do it all in midfield.

Birmingham Live has reported that the Lions are believed to be monitoring the situation of the England international, just in case another loan move is sanctioned.

"I think that would be a great signing," he exclusively told Villa News.

"I think it's there for everyone to see what he did at Crystal Palace last season, his energy, he was aggressive and got forward, he got on the end of things, he covered every blade of grass.

"That is a position where Steven Gerrard will be looking at and will be wanting someone like that in the door, someone like Gerrard who can do everything. Gallagher, to come from Chelsea on loan to put them performances together was brilliant.

"The only thing for him is can he see himself bursting onto the Chelsea team."

One to Watch.

THis would be a spectacular move if the Villans could pull it off.

Gallagher was sensational in an average Palace team at times last season and adding that energy into our midfield could take him, as well as the team to another level.

John McGinn has often had to carry that midfield burden alone on his shoulders, but adding more energy into the middle of the park could see him explode even further too.

Of course, there is a high likelihood that he stays at Stamford Bridge after shining last season, but should that change at any moment, Gerrard has to be ready to pounce.
